Design Class for Embroidery

Ukrainian Square Pincushion

This class is designed to be an initial journey into Ukrainian Whitework Embroidery and is a repeat of a popular class held in 2021. Students will explore basic techniques such as preparation gridding, flat stitch, Tovmach Stars, round eyelets and double tied half cross stitch. Students will gain the knowledge to interpret and adapt commercial patterns. Biennial Exhibition – 1920s in the 2020s

On 27 May 1922 at 149 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, the Foundation Stone for Lodge Tullibardine Masonic Hall was laid. Today, one hundred years later, this building is the home of The Embroiderers’ Guild, Queensland Inc. Thus, the title of this year’s Exhibition is 1920s in the 2020s with the theme of Foundations running through the event. Goldwork – Burgundy Flowers

Creative Canvas

This 2-day class will be held on Saturday, 30 July and Saturday, 6 August 2022. Students will learn Amadeus Stich, Jessica Stitch, Sheaf Stitch as well as basics such as Rhodes, Bargello and little Leaf Stitch.  The finished stitching can be assembled into a scissor fob or needle book.  There is a choice of colour schemes – Plum and Lime, Blue Lagoon or Jacaranda. Beginner’s Stumpwork Embroidery

Stumpwork embroidery, as we know it, is predominantly a decorative style of raised embroidery, that employs detached elements which are stitched on separate pieces of fabric. These elements are usually worked around pieces of wire and then applied to the background embroidery to give a 3-dimensional effect. What’s Next – Pincushion or Needlebook
