Ukrainian Whitework Biscornu – Day 1
Tuesday, March 3, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
This is a two-day class to be held on Tuesday 3 March (Day 1) and Tuesday 10 March (Day 2) and will focus on a biscornu, which is designed to be an initial exploration of Ukrainian Whitework embroidery. It will encompass counted thread embroidery techniques from several regions of the Ukraine including flat stitch, pulled fabric stitches, such as round and buttonhole eyelets, and cut work known as myreshka.
The finished size is approximately 11.5 cm x 11.5 cm and worked using white linen fabric with a count of 30 threads per inch (linen is supplied in the kit).
While Ukrainian Whitework is traditionally white thread on white fabric, students will be able to choose their own thread colour and these requirements will be sent to you before the class. The kit, available on the first day at a cost of $10, will include the prepared fabric and detailed notes.
No preparation work is required prior to this relaxed 2-day class. Students will need to have some knowledge and appreciation of counted thread embroidery.
$120.00 members; $160.00 non-members
$10.00 (to be paid to the Tutor on the first day of the class)
The kit includes prepared fabric and detailed notes. A list of other requirements for the class, such as thread, will be forwarded to you after enrolment. The project uses part ball of thread which you may already have in your stash.
Note: Kits can be prepared with 28-count white Cashel linen as a substitute for the 30-count linen for the same cost. Please inform the Class Registrar when enrolling.
