Cretan Embroidery Workshop
August 18 @ 9:30 am - August 19 @ 3:00 pm
The embroidery of Crete has a rich tradition, using surface stitches and often used silk threads to make wide borders that are found at the hem of Cretan skirts.
At this two-day workshop, the student will learn the traditional stitches used in Cretan embroidery, stitching with DMC stranded cottons on a natural coloured Strathaven linen. The student can choose a monotone or a multi-coloured schemed. The tutor will suggest two colour schemes the student may wish to consider.
The student needs to firstly decide what their project will be (e.g. an apron, a bag or a cushion). Some preparation will then be necessary before the class, including applying the design.
$200 (members); $220 (non-members)
Workshop folio cost
$35 to be paid (for the detailed instruction booklet) to the Tutor on the first day of the workshop
Other workshop requirements
The Class Registrar will give each registered student a list of threads and Strathaven linen sizes (depending on the chosen project), together with any other items they will need for this class. These will need to be purchased and brought to the class.
