Celebrate! World Embroidery Day
July 29 @ 10:30 am - 2:00 pm
World Embroidery Day was first celebrated in 2011, in Vismarlőv, Sweden. It was spearheaded by a local group of Broderiakademin (Sweden’s Embroidery Guild), which took the initiative to plan and create a special day to celebrate embroidery. That day, now called World Embroidery Day, is 30 July. The Embroiderers’ Guild, Queensland will celebrate it this year on 29 July.
World Embroidery Day is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the delights and joys of embroidery. It is also a chance to find out about the many benefits of belonging to our Guild: the learning and sharing of skills, fellowship and friendship, and mindfulness.
Four Brisbane City Council libraries (Brisbane Square, Carindale, Chermside and Indooroopilly) are co-operating with the Guild to showcase embroidery during July with an embroidery display on show at each library throughout the month. On Sunday, 29 July, we will offer a hands-on experience to the public at each library at the following times:
|Brisbane Square||10.30 am – 12.30 pm|
|Carindale||10.30 am – 12.30 pm|
|Chermside||10.30 am – 12.30 pm|
|Indooroopilly||12 noon – 2.00 pm|
Please invite family and friends who may like to come along. Simple stitcheries and basic requisites will be available.
