Newsletter

A members newsletter, Queensland Embroidery, is published 10 times per year. It is provided to all members of the Guild and is a source of news, events, competitions and class information. The newsletter is the main forum for members of the Guild to communicate with the wider Guild community.

Reports of Show and Tell held on the 1st Thursday and Saturday of each month can be found in the newsletters.

Classes

Classes in various embroidery techniques are held. Guild, interstate and overseas tutors provide exciting classes throughout the year. Click here for details. Each member on joining the Guild may attend, free of charge, a basic stitches class.

Young Creative Embroiderers' Classes are held in most school holidays. The classes allow children from 6 to 16 to learn techniques and complete a project.

Exhibitions

An exhibition of members' work is mounted every two years.  This is open to the public. Several pieces of members' work are on permanent display. "Show and Tell" sessions of recently completed works are held on the first Thursday and first Saturday of each month. The work of tutors is displayed from time to time also. We participate in demonstrations at various venues each year.

From Saturday 31 May 2008 to Saturday 7th June 2008, the Guild held an exhibition of members' work entitled, Fabulous Forty, celebrating 40 years of the Guild.

Library

There is an extensive lending Library which is open whenever members are present. A continually expanding collection of over 2000 books and magazines - some for reference only, but most may be borrowed for 2 weeks.

Embroidery Collection

The Guild collects embroideries and accepts donations of embroideries from the public. A constantly growing study collection of old and new embroideries mostly gifted to the Guild, which represents as widely as possible the type and style of embroidery of all periods and from all parts of the world. The embroidries date from about 1650 to the present. Throughout the year there are changing displays in the main meeting room. A yearly acquisition prize allows for members work to be acquired on a regular basis. These pieces are on permanent display.

Craft Fairs

Craft Fairs are held in the Guild Rooms twice yearly, in April and in November.
